What should I do first when I arrive in Dublin?
Sort accommodation and your PPSN in parallel. You need an address for most official steps, and you need a PPSN to start work and pay the right tax.
Can I rent a room without a PPSN or bank account?
Yes, landlords rarely ask for a PPSN upfront. You will need a bank account to pay rent by transfer, and a PPSN to be paid legally, so open both as soon as you can.
Do I need a GP appointment before I get sick?
Yes. Register with a GP while you are healthy. A non-medical-card visit costs €50–€70, and emergency departments are for emergencies only.
Is a Leap card cheaper than contactless?
Usually yes. Leap caps daily and weekly fares across Dublin Bus, Luas and DART, and capping only works with a registered Leap card.
